Welcome to the Gloria Dei Good News Library!

About 35 years ago, this library was started by Alice Cornelius with a handful of books and even fewer volunteers.  Since then, it has moved its location a couple of times, and with parent contributions and government money, we now have over 12,000 books and materials that are used by students, teachers, parents, and church members.  Students from grade one through eight are scheduled to use the library weekly.  One day each week, kindergarten and preschool students come in for story/music time.  Third through eighth grade students participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program.  At this point we have over 4300 AR books, which are available in our library for students to achieve their AR goals.  Through the Accelerated Reader Enterprise system, our students also have access to over 90,000 AR tests, which are taken in the classroom.  If our library does not have one of the books you may desire to read, many of these books can be borrowed from the public library, or purchased through Scholastic.com, Borders.com, Amazon.com, or Bamm.com.
The school library is open to students and parents Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. through the end of the school day, and Monday through Thursday after school. Parents are also welcome to enjoy check-out privileges for our wide selection of Christian books.
Students with overdue books are fined $0.10 per day per book (except for holidays or weekends). A $3.00 fee is charged for lost barcodes, and parents/students are responsible to pay for books that are lost or damaged. Books and fines may be turned into the school office any day.

I have been part of the Gloria Dei family as a teacher AND as a parent.  Many years ago as a first year teacher, I felt supported and encouraged by fellow staff, administration, school parents and their kids.  It’s the feeling of being just one small part of the “family of God” that attracted me then, and, after 26 years, remains one of the reasons I am still here.  For quite awhile, I took years off to stay home and raise my kids.  During those years, I took on the parent role, and was very thankful Gloria Dei was here to help my children to get a good education while being wrapped in the “Gloria Dei family blanket.” I continue teaching here as the Lord leads, with my kids all having graduated and gone on to public education.  Their years at Gloria Dei helped them to be grounded in their education and reinforced in their faith.  These are things you really can’t put a price on, and they’ve made a big difference in my kids’ lives.  The school has seen many changes in buildings, teachers, enrollment, students, and principals.  But the thing I’ve always been thankful for is how God has blessed our family with the ncouragement and support of fellow Christian parents, kids, and staff through their prayers, advice, help, gifts, hugs, and smiles that all have become components of that very unique
“Gloria Dei family blanket.”  May the Lord continue, as He sees fit, to“blanket” His love and warmth around many others through this special place! In His Love and Strength,
 Liz Miller
